Lamey Wellehan, Auburn: IRC Solar Roof Systems recently “covers” Lamey Wellehan of Auburn in Solar Panels. The panels are projected to generate approximately 43,000 kilowatts of electricity per year, which will slash their energy bills by at least 65%. The panels installed for this project are distinguished by monocrystalline solar cells with high cell efficiencies for the highest possible output, and will provide Lamey with 25 years of warranted electricity production.

All of the 297 units received extensive renovations including energy efficient windows, insulation, new condensing furnaces and Maine’s largest solar thermal installation from IRC Solar Roof Systems. The Caleb Group works closely with City officials and community organizations to ensure the revitalization of the buildings is accompanied by the renewal of the human spirit of The Village residents.

The 50,000 square foot store will be a laboratory for the company to test new innovations that lower energy usage, waste and water consumption. The project includes green design features including daylighting, solar photovoltaic panels, and vegetative and reflective white roof from IRC Industrial Roofing & Siding and IRC Solar Roof Systems.

Olde Woolen Mill: For over a century, The Olde Woolen Mill was the “focal point” of North Berwick, according to Town Manager Dwayne Morin. Recently, however, it had fallen into such a state of disrepair that Morin said he was worried it was “going to fall into the (Great Works) river,” which runs behind the mill in the center of town. The two-year, $8 million project converted the mill into 40 apartments for those aged 55 and older. The work was undertaken by the Swampscott-Mass.-based Caleb Foundation, which operates affordable housing buildings throughout New England. It was funded through a combination of state and federal grants, and was the first project funded by Maine’s State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program, which was signed into law last year. The mill, which is on the National Register of Historic Place, retained many of its original features, from the smokestack to the spiral staircase to the steam-engine wheel. Modern enhancements, like our solar thermal panels that heat the hot water were added.
